Yep, just an eye bolt. Make sure to use stainless steel.

 

This reminds me to put one on my boat. Ive used pliers and guides on rods so a stainless eye bolt will do

 

I believe some folks call it a “rigging eye.” I can’t recall where I got mine but it wasn’t Amazon. Make sure you get the one made from “316” stainless. The one I purchased was a bit more decorative and was around $12 if I recall correctly. I had to cut off about an inch-and-a-half of the threaded ends because it was unnecessarily long.

 

I think it's called an eye ring bolt. Got mine at West Marine.

 

If it were me , I would put a fender washer ahead of the nut for obvious reasons....may be overkill, bit it's cheap insurance to guard against pulling the thing thru the console.

That dam sea dog is way overpriced. I’m going to Ace and get a SS eye bolt and washers for under $5
Then mount it on the bulkhead on my front big ask hatch

 

Found 2 of the Sea-Dogs with the flat shoulder on eBay today. Got both for $10 plus shipping.

There is a slight difference between leaders and hooks for trout and redfish vs. snook and tarpon. Besides, a compact Sea Dog bolt is a lot less obtrusive than the sissy bars and cages that adorn the bows and platforms of some skiffs.

 

The ring sure beats having the hook slip and go into your hand.

I've found it helps a lot when cinching down knots in heavy leader. I just used a pad eye and 2 screws with big old fender washers behind it, much cheaper (maybe $5 even made from 316 and with West Marine prices) and I feel like it's much stronger too. I also like to clip my kill switch lanyard to it when I'm not using it.

Before I added mine I used to use the ring on my pliers lanyard.

 

Well, I like the triple Windsor. 45 years of jobs wearing a tie allowed me to be able to tie a regular Windsor sound asleep some mornings!

Since I don't have Tarpon nearby and I don't fish offshore, I guess I won't have to add anything to my boat. Thanks for the info.

 

I don't have a tying ring but if I used a lot of >40# fluorocarbon bite I would use the ring to tie uni loop knots to the fly. You can adjust the loop size easily and change flies quickly. You need a ring and pliers to do this.
