Thanks. That's what my mechanic sells. Says that the warranty is better and longer than Yamaha.

Best of luck with your new motor.

Zukiyamahatsu 70 with rapid thrust lower

Hands down
👍🏻
This!!
Never hurts to have a extra kicker or two hanging off the transom “just in case” 😂😂..
But seriously the things that need to be considered is weight, service and cost. If you’re not a DIY guy, but even if you are, at some point regardless of brand, it’ll need to go to the shop. So make sure you’ve got someone locally or fairly close that has a good reputation, that can do service and repairs on it.

F70 Yamaha (I've had two)
Most Reliable
Quietest!
Largest Prop Selection
Parts available Everywhere

Only reason to get a Suzuki 60 instead of F70 is OEM pricing.

Only reasons to get Tohatsu 60 instead of F70 is you want 15" shaft, lightest weight, and don't care that it is F'n loud.

Only reason to get Mercury 60 instead of F70 is you're getting it for half price.

There are people that love their Honda, but I don't know where they get parts and service for them. So get the F70.
You are right on point. I’ve got the 15” shaft Tohatsu. Light but LOUD. If you can handle the weight and transom height there are quieter and smoother options (although more expensive). A tractor vs a sewing machine.

I haven't purchased a motor yet. A couple years out or so from needing one.

Very helpful. I prefer a louder motor. And I really only need a 60. Thank you.
okay

If you had included what boat you have I would have told you I think an F70 is too heavy for a Waterman because I had one ten years ago.

With that experience I put a 15” Tohatsu 60 on my new SC Pro, and it’s awesome for shallower draft, easier poling, and running shallow.

But you’ll have to speak up for your passengers to hear you when running, or crank two turtle boxes playing Metallica and enjoy the ride.

(what are you going to sell?)

I purchased a tohatsu 60 two years ago due to the weight difference. It replaced an old yamaha 2stroke 50 that started having problems thus I lost the confidence to travel too far from ramp etc. I elected to repower than keep dumping money into the old 2 stroke that was an indistructible machine for years. It doesn't have the hole shot of my 50 and I even got a customize prop to help. it helps but still not quite as good a hole shot as my 50 and hovers around the top speed I had with the 50. The tohatsu is certainly much quiter than the 2 stoke but is noisier than other engines, but that doesn't bother me and I can still easily have a conversation with whomever is fishing with me while running. I wish I had been smart enough to look at the gear ratios Skiffadee DooDah pointed out. I think I would have been better off with the Suzuki and I would have taken the extra 9 lbs. But, other than that, the tohatsu has been worry free and given peace of mind to run off the grid outside of cell range in the marsh or 20 miles down the beach without worry of a breakdown, especially in the Gulf which can get nasty when the sea breeze kicks in for a 16 ft skiff.

I looked at a new 169 Matucumbe today that had a 60 Tohatsu on it. Priced at $36.9K. It prompted me to look at prices on that motor. I saw $4.7K,, is that about right?

I payed $6,600.00 locally in Islamorada. Tiller was an extra $1000
That's more than I expected, although I didn't look that hard.

As a sidebar, don't know if you've seen the tackle just south of MM100, CVS and the road split, bayside, where the statue place was. I stopped in there for the first time today. Nice shop, they had the 169 Matacumbe as well as a couple of other skiffs in the lot. Fly tying supplies and few fly rods and reels. A really nice shop. Way better than the yellow bait house LOL!
