I'm looking for the community's thoughts on what is the best, most trouble-free, long-lasting outboard motor for my 18 foot skiff? Thank you.
Every one of your posts in this thread makes it clear you made your decision before the original post. No harm done - just odd. It's nice that there are so many members here willing to take the time to share knowledge - free of charge! Thanks. That's what my mechanic sells. Says that the warranty is better and longer than Yamaha.

You are right on point. I’ve got the 15” shaft Tohatsu. Light but LOUD. If you can handle the weight and transom height there are quieter and smoother options (although more expensive). A tractor vs a sewing machine.F70 Yamaha (I've had two)

Only reason to get a Suzuki 60 instead of F70 is OEM pricing.
Only reasons to get Tohatsu 60 instead of F70 is you want 15" shaft, lightest weight, and don't care that it is F'n loud.
Only reason to get Mercury 60 instead of F70 is you're getting it for half price.
There are people that love their Honda, but I don't know where they get parts and service for them. So get the F70.
I haven't purchased a motor yet. A couple years out or so from needing one.Every one of your posts in this thread makes it clear you made your decision before the original post. Best of luck with your new motor.
The louder engine helps the manatees know you're coming and helps get them out of the way.I have to say I have never heard anyone express this opinion.
Thank you. Very helpful.I vote Yamaha f70. Yes, there are lighter options, but the damn things are just awesome engines. I live in Belize and work with guides putting 4000 hours on these engines. They love them, and I love the one that I have.
Sorry to say, they're just too slow and dumb to get out of the way. Two-stroke motors were noisy and it didn't help. They're "Sea Cows"The louder engine helps the manatees know you're coming and helps get them out of the way.
okayVery helpful. I prefer a louder motor. And I really only need a 60. Thank you.

Yeah but a lot of problems ,my son works at a shop where they sell Tohatsu and tells me they have a lot of issues .So, the Tohatsu is 40 lbs lighter than the Yamaha 60? Thanks.
Kinda like a HarleyThe louder engine helps the manatees know you're coming and helps get them out of the way.
