I have a 99 critchfield that I gutted and a 85 hobie that I just picked up for the motor it's a 50elpto. Carbs where dirty cleaned them and viola runs like a champ. Wondering opinions on which would be a better flats style skiff going for the palmer boggy creek look what would be better for flats fishing.

I've never drove a critchfield but I've own a Hobie 15, Razor 15 and coached sailing teams from a Hobie 13. So I can give you some insight to the Hobie handling.

For a boat that was designed to be launched from the beach and take breaking waves over the bow it has great maneuverability in tight places at slow speeds. This is why it is still favored by sailing coaches. You can get inches from another boat while coaching and not disrupt it.

For a small boat it's dry even in chop. This is why my wife likes Hobie's.

It pops onto a plane without tabs or other crud bolted to the out board.

Shallow draft for a V hull.

Great lines.

You get the point.

I demoed a Blazer Razor with a Yamaha 50 4S. It ran 33 with 2 adults IIRC. It planed reasonably well. It didn't bite in turns as well as I would have liked. The storage was fantastic, and while I didn't run it in a chop, I have every reason to believe it would take a chop very well for its size. I bought a Boggy Creek Diablo. It runs close to the same top speed with an Etec 50. It's remarkably dry and smooth riding for its size too. It turns like it is on rails. It really bites in turns. It squats about like the Razor coming up to speed. Neither are super skinny although tabs would help some. Great boats, both of them.

Thanks for the insight on the boats. I ran the hobie this weekend in the creek it planned off in a hurry had my two boys with me they could sit in the back with me with the engine still trimmed up and it planned no problem I weigh 210 and the boys weight 200 together. The hobie ran 29 mph wot maybe needs to be reproped but going to wait for a tach to see what the motor is turningI bought the critchfield last summer with a 25 evinrude and it would plane off fine with just me. But with anybody else in the boat they would have to sit closer to the bow the critchfield run 24 wot. They both seem to ride good but I like the flared bow on the critchfield
