Exactly! I am not looking to drill anything on my boat. I was hoping for a suction cup application with tent like material. I may have to make my own.

 

There is a shade called the Mantis. Might work for you. Don't know the website. Just Google it.

 

What about some type of pop-up tent that could fit down inside between the gunnels....that way you could still walk the gunnels and drive the boat if necessary. Also would be easy to store since it would have a small bag and be collapsible.

 

What I've done for my dog (another Lab of course -we've got two of them...) doesn't involve shade. Instead I bring a large towel, soak it in water, then wring it out to make a cool bed for old four foot to lay on. Works like a charm.... By the way water from home, kept in my cooler completes the accomodations for your best friend - lots of water!
