Contemplating something dumb - Pecos Table

I have admittedly trashed Pecos products for being ridiculously overpriced, and I do still maintain that rating, but I have somehow (despite my best interests) found myself somewhat seriously considering buying their stupid $689 table. Has anyone actually used or seen one of these monstrosities in real life?

Context:
I've been dealt with a bad back, which is a curse that I wish on no one, and It can prevent me from doing many everyday things, and some that you would never think of. The less I have to bend or hunch over, the better my day will be, and i'm generally all used up after a long day on the boat.

Since I have to travel to fish, i'm always staying at vacation rentals, and always struggling to find a good place to fillet my fish, or put a cooler where I don't have to bend down or hunch over repeatedly to get into. I know there are cheap folding tables out there, I've had a few, but the truly portable ones are pretty flimsy, and don't like the weight of a full cooler, and only a few of them have the height that I need. So, in the end, I'm considering the Pecos table from the perspective of buy once cry once and moving on.

Before I surrender my sanity and order one of these things, I thought I'd check in here to see if anyone is aware of a similar product that is portable, the right height, but can also handle 80-100lbs repeatedly without collapsing.

Compared to some of the stuff we, as a collective group buy. it doesn't seem crazy. Some of the accessories get pricey (great strategy on their part 😁 ) I think I would want the heat shield they sell. You will want the ability to take a pot off the burner and put it on the table.

Yeah, in the scheme of boating/fishing and the cost associated with it, this is a drop in the bucket, but damn... it's just a table...

Imagine explaining to someone in a poorer country that you spent $700 on a plastic table (to clean recreational fish on)...

Not to be a total cheapskate, but I have 2x plastic sawhorses from Harbor Freight and scrap plywood that works amazing for a cleaning table.
sawhorses are probably 1lbs each, and if you bought 4 you could probably clean a marlin on your table.
Best part is that if your plywood is gross you just chunk it for another piece.

what Bitesize said, ive spent my share of money on dumb shiii, but over my dead body would i spend 700$ on a sturdier taller lifetime table.
I keep maybe 5 fish a year- i steal my wifes 2'x3' plastic cutting board from sams club and put it on the boat, and clean the fish there.
im already cleaning the skiff after fishing, whats alittle slime and blood on the gunnel.

aside from that, whats wrong with the bass pro fillet table with built in sink for 80$?

No doubt, but I assure you.. when you have lower back problems, you will do whatever you have to do to make your life a little less painful. To be clear, I'm not defending the price of this table. If you're happy with the lifetime table, then your needs are met. I just want something I can use comfortably, is easy to clean, and that i don't have to fiddle around with to use/transport.

It's a sweet table but I'd rather have 3 overpriced coolers LOL. The other suggestions above I believe are missing the mark on the height adjustability to save the man's back. Here's an example from a reputable brand that boasts 200 lb. capacity. I'd be tempted to try that and replace it in a couple years if needed and still come out ahead....

I have had something very similar for years. And it folds up nice and compact. It’s solid as hell and is about $600 less than that Pecos thing. 😂
I would not want it around saltwater due to rust issues though.

Have you looked at quality wood folding camp tables? Byer of Maine make some quality stuff. I was recently looking at a camp table and it rolls up into a small bag. And only weighs in at 27 pounds. Just two pounds more. Looks good enough to use around the house as well.

The Pecos is bad ass and I would be a buyer at $300 with all the accessories. But a $180 heat shield so you don’t melt your $700 plastic table. And a $130 cutting board! GTFOH👎

What is your intended purpose for this? To use when boat camping I assume.

Check this out half the weight all aluminum top with adjustable height legs. And less than their heat shield accessory 😂 Definitely small enough to fit in a hatch and also weighs in at just 12 pounds.

I saw that table the other day in an ad and thought it was awesome until you posted the price! Yowza!! I clean fish with a Lifetime table I got at costco, was not super expensive and its height adjustable. Its not the fold out one but the small one its solid and only the legs fold out. I'm 6'3" and its nice to be able to raise it past standard height. The table is probably 5-6' long but that's a guess.

The tables made for woodworking that fold are extremely tough. The ones with all the holes in them for bench dog clamps. Dewalt makes one, there are others as well. Not sure about adjustable legs though. That is why I like my cheapo lifetime one for cutting up elk, I can make it higher and not get a sore back. It'll support 2 elk hind quarters, so unless yiu are cleaning giant tuna or swordfish it'll support fish no problem.

... considering buying their stupid $689 table ...
For that price it must come with a pair of Van Staal titanium pliers, right? :)

Seriously though, one of the things that has made my boat build a lot more comfortable is having a solid table at the right height, so I understand where you're coming from and think it will be helpful.

Sure would be nice if it did come with the pliers lol..

Pacos makes some useful products, they are just really proud of them. I like the magnetic cooler pad and cutting board they have too --$360 for that combo lol.. It almost feels like ordering Pacos product is a dumbness test--are you dumb enough to check out or are you just dumb curious and gonna let it sit in your cart for eternity--let's find out lol. Still haven't determined just how dumb I am.

I just can't see see spending $689.00 on a table. You can buy 10 of these for less than 1 Pecos table. I have been using the same $67 table for over 5 years with no problems. Great table, and I don't have to screw in the legs. Or buy just one table and spend the $622.00 in savings on a very nice fly reel! lol

I was at a huge catered crawfish boil once where the caterer had a ton of normal plastic folding tables (Lifetime?) and just slipped 1 1/2 inch PCV, maybe a foot in length, over each of the table leg ends. Raised them to standing/bar height and was sturdy enough that a bunch of good ol' boys could work on some crawfish. I thought it was a genius solution.

What about something like this:
