Long story, short: Yeti Hondo
We have them all; both Yeti chairs, Bote Aero and marine bean bags.
Started with the bean bags. Kids love them; they really tame mild chop. But, they are a disaster to trailer with. There’s just no elegant way to secure them to/in our skiff. A strong crosswind, in particular, will turn them into kites. Two grey/blue blobs rising up in the rearview mirror.
Then tried Yeti Hondo — good enough for Flip Pallot (ok, I know he didn’t have to pay for his), good enough for me. Added matching sea-dek to the chair feet with zip ties to keep it from sliding (although the tubing idea is genius). Used SeaSucker d-rings and Yeti straps to secure it in place. Solid.
Then, in typical Yeti fashion, as soon as you buy something, they come out with something better. Bought a Yeti Trailhead. Great chair… for the kids’ soccer games. Not nearly as robust as the Hondo. Plus, the crossed metal tubes at the back of the chair bow out much further than you would think — taking up more room than the Hondo.
Then, one of you wing nuts posted the Bote Aero chair and I had to have that. It’s a cool concept. Stows in a hatch (although stowing the pump is a little impractical). Very well made. Offers a little of the chop-cutting/cushion quality of the bean bags. But, it sits LOW. And, once you get used to the Hondo, it’s literally a step down.
