After getting knocked around pretty bad at a restaurant dock I figured it was time to get some decent fenders. I see they make some that are shaped funny for flats boats. Are they really necessary or will regular ole bags work just fine?

I keep two of the standard pill shaped ones with about 2 feet of rope tied to each up in the front hatch for just such a reason. I used to hear the boat banging the dock while eating and it drove me nuts. These work just fine and are cheap

I have a bumper tied to my Boga so if that Boga falls over... It has a long enough rope to use it if I dock
I also have a big one that I clip to the anchor rope in case I need to chase a Tarpon
Don't want any more clutter on the boat but that HD mat looks cool

Saw these things at West Marine today and had a thought. They would store much more easily than regular fenders in a small skiff. Put a few of them under your front deck with a piece of bungee and they double as extra floatation.

Those are exactly the same material as these, which are $99 less expensive.

Those kneeling pads would be okay I guess. But you better have them perfectly positioned because there is not a lot of cushion there to play with. Or maybe bungee them to the piling itself. Then if the boat moves around it would still be protected.

I keep two of those like PeteS showed in the boat. Marine Raider brand at Academy; affordable and convenient. I keep them in a platlstic tub that they barely squeeze into, under the front deck. I have lines attached, cut to the correct length with spring snaps to quickly attach to the boat.
