Need to drive from pensacola to Charleston next weekend and wondering if its worth stopping to fish anywhere. Could possibly bring a canoe but id like to avoid it since im covering a ton of highway miles. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!
If you are planning to hit the Golden Isles, SSI, Jekyll Island, be very aware of tides. Tides in the SSI area can be ripping. There are a few areas to wade but as mentioned, a kayak or skiff opens up a whole lot more. One more point- I am not sure your timing driving through, but the flood tides in the Amelia IS area for Sat (10/19/2024) is peak just after 11 AM EST. It will be a mega flood (almost too much water) so you would be best to get out there about 3 hrs before peak tide and fish until 11 AM.
If you are going through on Sunday, Amelia's Flood peak is 12 Noon- so 9 AM- 12 noon is your fishing window.
In both cases (both days)- a canoe will help as it will be so much water, you will find more slurping than tailing since the water will be so high.
