Going to head down to Exmore and fish the ocean side bays this weekend. I’ll be towing my 1760 Action Craft.

It will be my first time in the area in decades, besides just driving through. Definitely an exploratory trip, and my wife will be along so not too hardcore.

I’m open to suggestions on tackle, bait and lures. I want to target redfish and sea trout. I’m thinking a 7’ medium power spinning rod, a 7’ MH bait caster, a 7wt and a 9wt fly rod. Floating lines for the fly rods.

I was just looking at the forecast. It’s going to be blowing 20-30 seaside. If you’re committed to fishing this weekend I’d fish for stripers and trout in one of the bayside creeks (paddle tails, mirrodines, rattle traps).
Geez, you’re right. I don’t know what forecast I was looking at but the wind wasn’t even double digits. Thanks for the heads up.

With ENE you’re also right about bayside creeks.

I’ll definitely do some fishing of some sort, but with the real forecast, and my wife along, it looks like more exploring, by truck.

Yea, it’s been beautiful all week here near DC. Then the holiday weekend comes.
There is a much improved forecast for both Sunday and Monday.
The weather was problematic except for a window Monday. During that window the weather was nearly perfect but occasional banks of thick fog were blowing through. Not being familiar with the area and with my wife on board, we stayed within a couple of miles of the boat ramp. Ran back at 5:00 through pea soup fog. Thanks to Humingbird for their chart plotter, allowing me to retrace our track out from the ramp through the grass islands.

We had some bites on lures and baits but didn’t manage to catch anything. But we had a fun time and my wife, who hasn’t been fishing with me for quite some time, became reacquainted with the gear. She must have tried to cast with the bail closed 20 times before getting that down.

Absolutely beautiful area. Definitely will return. Talked to an old retired waterman who told me to call him when I’m headed back down and he told me he’d teach me to find and catch redfish and speckled trout, which are new species for me aside from some caught on guided trips.

Might go back this weekend.
