Trip planning for a couple years out. Louisiana Lodge, all inclusive recommendations.

My son is going into his Sophomore year in college. Where in the heck did the time go! He's in an accelerated program. He'll complete his 4 year degree in three years at NSU, Nova Southeastern University.

We've talked and for graduation he wants to fish for big reds in Louisiana. I have been looking at some all inclusive lodges. The idea is to drive to Louisiana spend 2-3 days fishing with a day trip to New Orleans. Then drive home so about 4 days in Louisiana.

Because this is about 2 years out I'm just looking for ideas. Would love y'alls feedback based on things or places y'all have stayed.

Cheers!

Couple of thoughts.

1. Two days of fishing is not enough. Hit the wrong weather window and you might never leave the lodge. To me 3 days is bare minimum and 4 is way better.
2. Now the above depends a bit on what time of year and what type of fishing you want to do. Obviously chucking bait and you are much less impacted by weather.
3. Capt Ryan Lambert's Cajun Fishing Adventures is the place to go. They can accommodate any type of fishing, lodge is great, and the food is insanely good.

Dogwood Lodge could be an option. I'd call and see what capt's are currently packaging trips from there

CFA is an excellent choice. I would also consider Bourgeois Fishing in Lafitte. Maybe not as many bull reds, but plenty of action and a cool spot/great lodge, which was just renovated after damage from Hurricane Ida.

I have fished out of CFA many times, and used Bourgeois once. Ryan runs an awesome lodge (CFA) in Buras and that is my recommendation as well. I'll give you a call with some other suggestions, options to consider.

Thanks All, good news is I have about 2 years to plan. But I'd like to use this as a carrot for my son to continue to do well in college. LOL

@iMacattack skip New Orleans. Used to be a decent city and worth seeing, it's not anymore. Spend that day fishing, you'll enjoy it more. 4 days of fishing should put you on some monster Reds.

Oh, plan for sometime November to January. You can push it to October or February if you need to.

I somewhat agree. It might be worth an evening for dinner and some music (Preservation Hall / Tipitinas / Maple Leaf). I wouldn't burn usable fishing time in the city though.

Are you looking trying to fly fish or or you traditional tackle?
Either way, I would highly recommend giving Ty Hibbs a call (504-343-9017). He is as good of a guide as they come and he will give you intel on accommodations, best times to come, what you need to bring, etc.
Thanks for all the recommendations. He wants to see New Orleans. Figured get a beignets at Cafe du Monde see some sights. But something that’s a day trip.
Went to Cajun Fishing Adventures website. didn't see any information on their accommodations other than it's $200 a day and includes B,L,D.

If it's a multi day trip we'll probably mix it up based on conditions.
Try the Pelican. Its a mothership anchored up in the chandeliers.

In that amount of time, I may have my own lodge

Please keep me updated if you are going to make that happen!
Another vote for Cajun Fishing Adventures. I've stayed there a number of times, and it's as turnkey as you can get - Ryan runs a great operation. Try to see if you can get a day scheduled on the skiff with Ryan himself if he'll do it. Honestly, their skiff guides aren't the best down there, but Ryan really knows his stuff. Most of the guides run bay boats, and Todd and Cody are my favorite guides of his crew.

Another option would be Journey South Outfitters. It probably would be a bit pricier, but it's a much classier operation in terms of food, lodging, tackle, etc. Unlike the vast majority of guides down there, they don't kill every single fish they catch and usually only keep a few for dinner. I dig that as the fishing down there has really gone downhill in just the last 15 years since I've been going.

Just show him these--maybe print and put them on the refrigerator as a "carrot"!

Though C. A. Richardson lives in Florida, he guides out of CFA every summer from mid-July through late August. I'm sure you could set something up with him now for when your son graduates. His phone number is 727-677-8185.

I've stayed with Cajun Fishing Adventures and Paradise Plus. Both good options. Try to get Todd Seither to guide you if you go with CFA. Others good by rep include Fish Intimidator with Ron Price or Reel Tite. Had a trip planned with Reel Tite that got blown up by hurricane Ida and they were super flexible and no problem with the refund. Another option is a stay aboard at the Chandeluers. The Pelican is a good choice. Hard to go wrong there. Lots of good operations. Good luck!
