I have a 25 2 stroke Mercury I bought new in 05 it has been on at least six different boats the hours are unknown but it's pushing 20 years and I use the tiller boats way more than the bigger one I'd venture to guess it has easily over 2000 hours on it. Most of my runs are an hour or so but have run many longer runs. I understand that's not comparably with a 4 stroke just my experience.

I ran a 1989 Suzuki 2 stroke 85hp until I re-powered with a 2000 90 4 stroke Suzuki. I think being good about maintenance is the key

I bet knows how often and long he ran it. Why are you constantly treating people here like you know more than they do about their own boats man? Water cooled lower units…bwahaha.

i keep logs on all engines. That old 85 had (from old memory) probably near 10k. I did bore it and rebuild it once on my coffee table while watching football, Ran better than ever after that. Was still running but was definitely getting tired before the rebuild. Actually got a good trade in when I went 4 stroke 90.
