I'd hold out for a Gulfstream on the 12 wt. Pairs perfectly with my NRX. The Riptide is a bit on the small side imo and line pickup speed is a lot less as a result, compared to the Gulfstream. I've got mine paired with a 9 wt. Better yet, get both! Whatever route you take, it's only a matter of time til you pull the trigger on the other lol

Thanks for your input, the search goes on! I was only thinking about size and weight and missed the pickup aspect. Took advantage of discounted meridians am now also looking for a reel for a new 7wt as well. Going with an everglades hopefully!

Looking at a Tibor riptide to use on a 12 wt meridian. Will this size be ok?
Thanks in advance
Scott
The Rip is too small on a 12 - I use one on my 10. I use a Gulfstream on my 12. I'd suggest looking at Nautilus - they have light, high pick up reels at a good price. The Gulf is heavy, but I don't mind it. The head on 12 wt line is massive, which will take up a lot of room.
