Just picked up a new stihl 250 ms with a 18" bar. Any of you guys have feedback on this saw or any stihl crainsaws. Like brake in, longevity and so on. It's my new toy :) and hope this will last me for years to come.

Pretty much the same rules for any chainsaw.
Watch your fuel mix, keep it sharp, keep it clean (filter, bar/chain/cooling fins),
watch the chain tension, keep an eye on bar wear, follow the maintenance schedule,
wear your safety gear, do not disengage or disable the safety.
Being able to cut when you want is good,
being able to stop quick if you have to, is much more important.

Chainsaw apron or chaps may look a bit odd, but worth the money.
Especially when things go sideways and the bar hits your thigh with the chain still moving.

been there, glad I was wearing the apron

Just make sure to use Stihl oil mix and non ethanol fuel. Should last you a lifetime with basic homeowner use..

Good advice guys thank you. I went with the stihl because while I don't cut trees for a living I use it way more than a homeowner. I use a really full wheelbarrow of wood everyday for my wood fire pizza oven. Needed a good saw that can keep me in the game.

Only put as much gas in it as you need for the job…non E-10.

My friend just retired a 20+ year saw.

All of my power tools are Stihl. I used the Stihl premix gas for the first 3 or 4 tanks and never had any issues.

My backpack blower is almost 20 years old and running strong.

You made a good choice...now get back down here, or get in the delivery business.

When cutting don't let the chain come in contact with the ground, dirt,or sand nothing dulls chains quicker.

Don't get too carried away with craziness bro. Its a chainsaw. Made to do dirty work. Make sure its got gas and bar n chain oil and you're all good. I run mine every day as do my other 2 crews. With pump gas

great saws. Buy a pair of chaps right away....especially if you are cutting small stuff or brush. Zero ethanol and good oil only.

Buried that beast in a 20 inch oak log this morning to see what it had. She's no joke! Thanks for the replies and advice. Not my first chainsaw just my first good one.

2 rules for chainsaw bar and chain life:

    1. keep the chain out of the ground.
    2. keep the bar oil tank full.
