Steelhead rod for surf fishing?

Picked up a nice 9'6" Loomis steelhead spinning rod from the pawn shop today for 10 bucks. After some research, it looks like they sell new for close to $500 so I got a pretty good score on that. It looks like a killer blues and pomp rig for the surf but I have never really seen anyone use one. I think I'll slap a small Stradic on it and give it a whirl when the surf flattens out. Any thoughts or other uses?

I used a 9'6" loomis 8 weight and made it into a steelhead rod. I used it down here a few times and you can throw a Mirrolure Catch 200 until you almost run out of line on your reel.

The great thing about a rod that long is you can cast your lure over the horizon and drop your line weight down because the rod is a great shock absorber.

    You'll have fun.
