Nice ride. Yeah you trade some draft for ride quality and performance. Same with my Evo but wouldn’t trade it! Ended up with my current skiff after taking a ride in an HPXv they are sweet boats!

You'd be suprised how much weight the power pole and trolling motor add to it... why I'm seriously contemplating putting a trolling motor on my 18. Have enough trouble getting skinny as it is.

Agreed. I was contemplating it since I got the boat and finally gave in. I mostly fish solo so both of the devices help in that aspect.

This winter has made me wish for less draft than my Evo V provides. A lot of areas require that ~6 inch or 5 inch mark to get into in my new location. However, I run out front a lot to get from spot to spot in the Gulf and long runs in the upper keys makes me appreciate the deadrise.

I'm about to add a jackplate and paranoid about losing more draft. Your HPX V looks nice. Never ran one but have always admired them. They have a simple clean look to them like they mean business.

You won’t add noticeable draft with a plate unless you break out a ruler. Here’s an EvoX I just added a 6” Bob’s, my riser plate and pickup system to.

It’s been almost a year since I acquired this 17’ HPXv and so far, I’m loving it. Rides like a dream. The only thing I’ve noticed is sometimes I can’t get quite as shallow as I’d like but all around a great skiff.

Great skiff. Mine was the same color, just with a 90/2 stroke. They really are one of the best all around skiffs imo. Not too skinny, but man they run fast and handle chop amazingly well. Kinda tippy, but super quiet on the pole. Just a good all around boat. Enjoy!

A powerpole is 17lbs on the transom and 26lbs total don’t think that’s gonna do much as far as draft 1/10th of an inch
It aint the powerpole and trolling motor. Its all the other stuff you need to support having it. ie. batteries/pump. Ounces equal pounds!

Do you think the EvoV might be a little more sensitive to adding weight because of the shape of the hull? I would imagine the X with its flatter hull is naturally more “bouyant”? Just thinking out loud…..

I would think the opposite. More wetted hull area on the V should take more weight to affect draft. Either way, it’s just a little weight compared to all the other crap we put on and in our skiffs. Distribute 50-60 pounds across the entire wetted hull and you’re looking at fractions of an inch added draft on just about any of our skiffs.

Cool maybe one day I’ll get an HMP plate with ZC pickup. If I can make it work without adding more than 4 inches total length I might do that down the road. My dads new boat has a jackplate and the first one I’ve ever operated and I’m really digging it…
