Anglers, get your hooks into a great tournament while helping to fund studies of Florida's snook. On Oct. 3 and 4, Mote's Center for Fisheries Enhancement will be hosting the 10th Annual William R. Mote Memorial Invitational Snook Shindig, a science-based catch, sample and release tournament targeting tagged snook released by Mote's Stock Enhancement Program. THE DETAILS: WHAT: The William R. Mote Memorial Snook Shindig Invitational, also known as the 10th annual "Snook Shindig," a science-based catch, sample, and release tournament. WHEN: The tournament begins after the mandatory 6 p.m. Captain's Meeting on Friday, Oct. 3. Fishing hours are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 through noon on Oct. 4. WHERE: The Captain's Meeting will be held at Mote Marine Laboratory in the Jean P. Hendry Conference Room at the Ann & Alfred Goldstein Marine Mammal Research & Rehabilitation Center, 1703 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota. The tournament will take place in Sarasota-area waters. Fishing from boats and shoreline angling are both allowed. WHY: To help fund snook restocking and conservation efforts and help gather scientific information on the fate and effects of stocked hatchery snook. SNOOK SHINDIG REGISTRATION: $40 for adults, $20 for youths through age 15 (who must be accompanied by a participating adult). BARBECUE: Awards dinner at 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Mote Marine Lab Chickee. Dinner-only guests can pay $15 onsite. Registered anglers are eligible for prizes.
