new guy coming to Orlando for boat research only next Thursday 5/23/19 for one week , want to see East Cape and others. Need recommendations.
: South Padre Island, Texas, 15 miles to fish into and downwind, I Flyfishing alone usually, tunnel, over 40 mph, need basket with support, trolling motor, action craft, ,lots of other boat issues of course. I’m fishing a Vantage in Boca Grande but want to see others on this trip. I’m using saltwater magazine “best skiffs” list as basis: Hells Bay, Chittum, see mag for rest. Where should I go, whom should I see? Very few skiffs down here in land of bigger, heavier, “tournament”, cats, etc.
Thnx, JHW

Chittum and Hells Bay are high end and you pay for it. ECC is high end and not as much $$. Opinion on which boats are best will always get lots on interesting comments on here. Some have a bit of basis in fact most not....lol. Its your money buy what you want. But ECC is where its at!

See them all , ride in as many as possible. Every person will like something different that why there so many choices. For me I went to buy a HB ended up visiting east cape and changed my mind.
Can you give me three or four between Orlando, st Pete and Boca Grande? I can go farther if needed.
Thnx.

My quest for shallow and nice poling has taken me mostly to Chittum. I think a HB Pro might be nice too. I would highly recommend you get on those two, an EC Fury or others. I would look at the companys’ guide programs and go fish for a day. Not doing so is why so many people sell their first skiff so quickly.

Good idea. But to stoke the fire a bit those "guide programs" are why us mere mortals have to pay so much for their skiffs!

I blame Eric Glass and his ilk for most of my problems:) I’ve had 23 ultra cat and want smaller, faster, more shallow, nimble. Flyfishing specific. Boss man is far less expensive??? Why? Did you see my list above? Thoughts?

I looked into Bossman 2 yrs ago. Do a search of previous threads here.
Best,

Beavertail mosquito if looking for non tunnel, if looking for tunnel I would prolly look chittum, spear glades x if looking for a bare bones skiff, maverick hpx-t, or I guess a tunnel pro or 18 waterman. I grew up south Texas and owned an ankona copperhead( first gen, a good bit lighter) and it did 80 percent of what I wanted to do in south Texas but it did provide a few white knuckle experiences where a tunnel would have been nice.

The spear glades x runs skinner and is very light.

Have you ever been on a new water stilt?
