Right now I’ve got a 1436 jon boat with a 14hp surface drive mud motor for flats fishing, running creeks, duck hunting, etc. But with duck season only being a couple months of the year, been thinking of swapping the jon boat for something else. Anyone have any recommendations for a sub 200 pound skiff suitable for up to a 15hp outboard that would be suitable for a mud motor?

Was originally looking into a 15.4 gheenoe but not sure about the skinny width at transom.

I think you'd do a lot better with a gheenoe classic, the 15'4 is just too narrow and weight sensitive.

Keep the 1436 for ducks and buy a separate boat for other uses. Or evaluate if you actually need a mud motor, running an outboard will open up more boat options for you.

Do like brown dog says or get a motor and swap it after duck season.
