Covering my benches/front deck on my aluminum Jon boat. It’s a 2014 with pretty fresh paint...should I bother roughing up the surface with a sander before applying? Or is it a waste of time?

There are some pretty specific instructions for applying but don't know the prep for painted aluminum. I prepped my cockpit with mineral spirits and then laid it over the nonskid. Has been holding up well

You will probably peel the paint off if you tried to remove the SeaDek on paint you didn’t rough up. Adhesive likes smooth surfaces better than rough ones. Making sure it’s clean is the real key. Degreaser, degreaser, degreaser!

Waste of time. When it starts looking like crap you can remove it and not have damaged surface under it if you were selling. Completely agree with Smackdaddy.
I did one trailer beam and it has been on since 06. Did not sand it. Bare aluminum.
