Just got some sheet seadeking to cover my poling platform. Should I kind of sand it a little bit before laying the decking down for better gripping?

I would simply wipe it down with aectone.

What material is your platform top? I would definitely give it a good go with some acetone as said above. I applied Seadek to an aluminum poling platform and to a fiberglass cockpit per their instructions and never had any issues

You can, but its not necessary.

Make sure it's a sunny day over 60 degrees, and place the boat in the sun. Wipe with acetone. Stick it.

I install SeaDek for a living and that is what we do on hundreds of boats per year.

I did acetone then followed with alcohol before installing my SeaDek ruler. I suppose sanding won't hurt but don't think its necessary.

Either use a rolling pin or one of these to get it to stick better.

I just laid it down and walked all over it. Has held up fine for the past four years.

Not necessary to sand. Just clean really well and make sure you get the edges stuck good.
