For a skinny skiff, obviously weight is an issue but probably not at the expense of safety. What safety items are a must for you on your boat?

One of those "space" blankets
Hand held compass
A good fixed blade knife with lots of backbone

I have a PLB, hand held VHF, my cell phone, and my Tow Boat US card.
As far as the required... SOS signal light and a daytime signal flag, no flares or smoke to replace, or get wet and fail.

Meat tenderizer for jellyfish stings (added to my very good first aid kit)
Small bottle of sunblock (not emergency but really helps)
Phone charger cable since I have USB port in console
Package of handy wipes for various needs

I have a small backpack that I carry with sunblock, small first aid kit, pliers with side cutter (when you are not fishing barbless), antiseptic cream, extra knife, waterproof ID, alcohol wipes.I carry this with me, because if you fish with somebody else, you may not have access to these things.. My wife was a nurse, so we err on the side of caution.
