I tried one on a 7wt and personally thought it was too small for it. And I’m only talking the line retrieval and weight. The drag can handle anything.

Looks like the pole was unanimous, 6wt.!

I like mine on a 7wt CC Pro 1. With a shortened SA warm or cold RF line it is a great combo for what I do.

Don't have a Freestone but I have a Billy Pate Trout DD (similar specs to the Freestone) which I pair with an old TFO TICR 6wt. I've been thinking about upgrading the TICR to a Axiom 2X in 6wt

Sage Bass II Smallmouth 230 gr (7'11)
Suits both rods great...the 230 gr bass line does eat away at the backing capacity...but still able to whip false albacore handily...
