I was deer hunting last weekend with my friend Captain Troy Perez and he shared with me the following video of a massive school of redfish feeding on a bait pod about 8 miles off the Port Canaveral inlet last week. The video is unlike anything I have ever witnessed so I thought that I would share it with everyone. I have fished them on the beach in years past but never saw them this far offshore or in such a huge school. Evidently this happens fairly frequently this time of year with both red and black drum and he has been crushing them both routinely when the weather permits.

Enjoy,

Sam

Back in 1969-70 I was going through Navy flight training in Pensacola and had a boat which we used offshore mostly because the Gulf was just calm most of the time. We saw schools of huge reds like this often; they were spawning offshore. When the "Blackened redfish craze" began they were netted almost to extinction in the Gulf; too easy to catch, as you can see in this video.
