Lately I've noticed a noise coming from the front compartment of my 17' skiff where the fuel cell/tank resides. I was able to stick my ear in the compartment and find that it appears to be coming from near where the gauge wires enter the tank. This noise is intermittent, a buzzing sound, and only present when the outboard is running. Any thought, suggestions, etc? Could it be that the sending unit?

Yes. Immediately disconnect the hot wire and replace sending unit and/or ground.

Will do. Is there any safety concern at his point?

Just to follow up on this and hopefully help someone in the future. I took the boat in the morning to have the rattle looked at, and the mechanic quickly diagnosed it as the anti-siphoning valve (or ball) rattling. Squeezed the priming bulb to prove it. Great and knowledgable guy set my mind at ease. While it is an annoying sound, I guess it's not worth the cost to remove the rattle.

Thanks for your help and feedback TopNative
