Hey Gang,
I leave on my trip Monday. I was wondering. Instead of carrying three separate fly rod tubes on the flight with my backpack will something like this make it on the flight as a carry on?

Anyone ever use something like it on a flight?

Hopefully it is okay to post the link on Amazon.

Thanks in advance for the tips.

I flew on American down to San Pedro using the Orvis carry it all ( same as Allen). They had me put all my flies in the checked bag but everything else was good. I had 4 rods and 3 reels with tippet , pliers and bunch of different fly lines in the box.

That’s exactly what I have used to travel to Belize. I also wear my fishing clothes, sunglasses, etc. in the event that my check in gets “lost” or delayed. At least I’m fishing when I arrive!

getting down there shouldnt be a problem but one thing to keep in mind is that you may not be able to fly with it back as carry on and have to check your rods/reels/etc. coming from mexico and grand cayman ive had to check all fishing gear more than once. ive read from some that they were able to carry their fishing gear on the plane on the return from similar destinations but that has not been my experience. belize may be different but probably still in your best interests to do your own due diligence on what fishing gear will pass through security on the return.

and the vedavoo rod quiver absolutely rocks. great and convenient way to carry 4 10ft rods as long as youre careful....theres no hard panel so the risk of your rods breaking is very real if you throw stuff on top of it. theres one thats being auctioned on the bay right now.

I’ve flown to Belize 2x in the past year with the Fish Pond version of this case. Absolutely no issues and it’s a sure way to hedge against lost/delayed checked luggage …. especially with highly important gear for your trip.

That should be fine - done Belize . We have always used the fIshpond Jackalope Tube attached to my back pack .Have always checked Reels and Flys. (Also large saltwater players can be an issue if not checked)

Made the trip on the 11th. It all went well. It was a dream trip. We got bones but struck out on the permit and tarpon. We had shots but they just didn't hit. I also missed on more than a couple of cast.

We are already looking at a return trip next October.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

I had so many refusals from permit down there I felt like a hooker trying to get an invite to a church picnic. Doesn’t matter. Permit take you to a new level of focus and desire to get better. The bones build up your ego. The permit come in and remind you just how bad you suck. My buddy got one and we celebrated like we won a Super Bowl. Days like that are why we keep doing it.

Funny story! Years ago one of my clients used a rod tube that carried 3-4 rods. The brand name was “Bazukka”! I’m not sure if that would be a wise choice these days!
