Running dry has a tendency to varnish things up.

Wet has a tendency to eat rubber seals.

Gas is funny like that.

In the old days when we stored motors for the winter we fogged them with some kind of fogging solution until they died and then we drained the bowl. Left them that way until the global warming kicked in 7 months later, filled her up with fuel and used her all summer.

Things today are far more complicated.
