OPTIMA Batteries Joins ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series as Official Sponsor

ESPN Outdoors announced today that OPTIMA Batteries, the Ultimate Power Source, has joined the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series as an official sponsor.

The agreement will provide OPTIMA Batteries, a Milwaukee-based company, significant exposure across ESPN Outdoors’ multimedia properties, including ESPN Outdoors Saltwater, the new annual magazine set to be introduced in April, <> and coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. Earlier this year, OPTIMA renewed its sponsorship agreement for BASS tournament trails. BASS also is owned by ESPN.

“OPTIMA Batteries is proud to expand our relationship with ESPN by taking part in the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series, and we are sure ESPN Outdoors will continue to drive the sport of fishing to a new level,” said Josie Cline, marine brand manager for OPTIMA Batteries. “As an Ultimate Power Source for all anglers and an avid supporter of the sport, OPTIMA Batteries encourages enthusiasts everywhere to stay out on the water longer, and together we will continue to power the sport into the future.”

In an effort to strengthen its presence in the saltwater market, OPTIMA recently introduced the D27M BlueTop battery. OPTIMA is the only company to offer a complete product line of marine batteries in the marketplace. The dual-purpose BlueTop batteries, including the new D27M, have enough deep cycle power to run multiple high-demand electronics and still provide enough cranking power to start the motor. OPTIMA Batteries are corrosion resistant, able to withstand extreme temperatures and are spill proof and maintenance free, making them the ultimate batteries for avid anglers and weekend enthusiasts.

“OPTIMA is working hard to develop batteries for all types of anglers,” said Jamie Wilkinson, senior director, event operations and business development, ESPN Outdoors. “We commend their innovation and are excited to continue working with them.”

The ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series, announced in July 2008, will make its broadcast debut on ESPN2 with six 30-minute episodes starting Sunday, March 29, at 8:30 a.m. ET, while ESPN Deportes will begin airing the series on Saturday, April 4, at 6 a.m. ESPN Outdoors personality Jose Wejebe, who has hosted ESPN2’s Spanish Fly for 13 years, will host the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series episodes.

The 2009 ESPN Outdoor Saltwater Series season will begin April 4, with the Baker’s Bay Marsh Harbour Bonefish Classic out of Abaco, Bahamas. Other high-profile events include the Florida Keys Outfitter’s IGFA Inshore World Championship, set for July 7-9, and the Redbone Celebrity Tournament scheduled for Nov. 6-8. The full schedule of events and featured sportfish is listed below.

The Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series was founded by Gary and Susan Ellis in 1988 with a mission “To catch the cure for cystic fibrosis.”
