!978 25 Johnnyrude hand till. All good except throttle is really hard to twist. Maybe replace grease fittings? Give it a bath in WD-40. Tried taking it apart but things keep breaking off.
Something to check. Tilt the handle up and make sure teeth are lining up correct. Had this happen on occasion on a J15. Also do yourself a favor and read all you ever wanted to know about those older motors. Quote from his webpages https://www.leeroysramblings.com/ "Now there seems to be one MAJOR problem with these models, and that is that the twist grip is not really designed to be operated in any other position above a 35 degree angle. If you tip it up farther and twist the throttle, you can experience these teeth to jump out of mesh 1 or 2 gear teeth without knowing what you just did. When in this condition, it will usually run, but at about only up to 1/2 throttle. It will not rev up to maximum speed as this flat will not allow complete shaft throttle movement."
