I’m headed down to N.C. to visit the wife’s family. Planning on a few days of trout fishing in the mountains on the way to their place. These folks have a place on Oak Island we could stay if we wanted. I’ve fished it once in June but I would imagine things are much different in January. Are there places a guy could catch a few drum (or anything really ) without a boat? I do have a canoe I could haul down if it’d be worth it. Any tips would be appreciated. I’m bringing the fly rod but I’d have no problem chucking bait either. Thanks for your help.

Whats up, man. Ive had some good luck around the marina where carolina waterspouts is. there is a creek to the right called montgomery slough and I've had good luck of the grass back there. I've caught trout, reds, and flounder out there.
