I'm going to order an EVOx and wanted to bounce a few option ideas off the masses. I have put together a pretty thorough list of options but wanted to see what y'all think about a few I'm not totally decided on:
  • Center console with integrated cooler jumpseat or removable cooler seat to save room
  • Jackplate, Bob's or Atlas
  • Micropower pole, wired or removable with battery pack
  • Suzuki 60 or Tohatsu 60
  • Odyssey batteries or Lithium pro's
  • Offset trolling motor mount or centerline
  • Minn Kota, Motor Guide or Rhodan trolling motor

- removable cooler seat; Frigid Rigid would be my preference. Lighter and prettier than a roto-molded cooler
- Bobs JP
- 8' PP blade; height is lower when not deployed. No wire, remote FOB only. My experience says 8' means you can anchor in 6'. A 6' PP means you can anchor in 4'.
- Lithium pro; Full River or Lifeline if going AGM
- not sure on Zuke vs Tohatsu
- TM location depends on cleat set up.
- Rhodan... but a knowledgeable person mentioned to me last week he didn't like them for shallow water as much as my MK. That surprises me, need to look into further that.

  • Removable cooler seat to save room, will never regretm having the option for more room when needed.
  • Bobs Jack Plate
  • No power pole Micro, get a regular power pole You might as well just use a pin or the push pole if going with a micro.
  • Offset trolling motor - offset to right so deck is clearer for fly fishing
  • Minn Kota

-I would go with a 6 or 8 ft power pole.
- motor guide trolling motor with quick release. I saw an Evo a while back that actually had an extra bracket mounted by his poling platform for another option while fly fishing.
- I have a tohatsu now that I love, but I think you'll be happy with either. Figure out which one is best deal and if you can service it somewhere close.

Here's my $0.02
  • Center console with integrated cooler jumpseat - Cleaner looking, less hassle IMO
  • Bob's Jackplate, though that's based solely on what others have said. I have an Atlas on mine.
  • Micropower pole - Wired, though from speaking with Adam this is easy to add later
  • Suzuki 60 - Just a personal preference
  • Odyssey batteries or Lithium pro's - If money isn't an option, use Odyssey for cranking and lithium pro for trolling motor. My fear with Lithium is that one minute they work, the next minute they are dead and I'd hate to get stuck not being able to crank the motor.
  • Offset trolling motor mount - I like being able to see it from the platform
  • Minn Kota - but if you get the Ulterra you'll have to get the Center mount.
  • Margarita Machine

*cooler in seat
* i run a micro power pole hard wired and cut the pole so it sticks up about 1ft over the poling platform. I can anchor in about 3ft of water. ( i have a Ipilot for anything deeper. )
*I run 60 AH lithium's on a 24v Ipilot. I have fished 2 days straight and have yet to kill them.
*Not sure on the trolling motor, but i will soon be putting a quick release bracket on the stern of the boat so i can move it to the back when i am solely poling.

You’re going through exactly what I’m going through, with feedback from Kevin and others. I’m going with a Fury so that it fits in my garage, but I'm otherwise looking at the same data.

My changes were to potentially bump to a 90 suzuki over a 60....though I haven't talked to anyone about the new tohatsu 60, debating a shallow water anchor or an ECC stake out system...especially if I go with GPS based trolling motor, debating a MG xi3/iPilot or to have the backing plates installed and wait for Power Pole to release their trolling motor sometime (who knows) in the near future. I'm pretty set on Oddysey's unless something blows me away with the lithium market. I like the cut down center console with an insulated jump seat for the kids/wife. I am asking ECC to put two rod holders on the back of the platform.

For me, the reality is that I'll pole the boat significantly less than running a trolling motor since I fish by myself or with my young son a lot.

On other thing to potentially think about is whether or not you want a functioning livewell. I am rarely fish with live bait, for better or worse, so I am asking that the livewell not be plumbed, and will instead use it as a cooler/dry storage/fish box. I figure the less holes in the boat, the better, especially since the engel live bait coolers work well, are easily moved about, and are therefore easier for me to access when I am busy baiting my kids hooks.

Good luck!

I thought this was a standard feature?
I asked Kevin about this. Margarita machine was N/C but because I opted for the anejo premium tequila, it would be an upcharge.

Thanks guys for your answers. Appreciate the input, especially since I didn't give any real specific details other than the new skiff will be an EVOx. I'll post up more details later after my call with East Cape. I'm flying out to visit the factory next week and will have most everything decided after that.

What TX_Brad said about perfect setup . Cooler jump seat console much cleaner look.
Trolling motor mount is preference doesn’t matter I find people now like to stand in the way of the side mount and I still can’t see it :-(
Boat performs well with the 60hp ,pick brand with local shop.
No jack plate on mine and still debating on adding not sure it will have much performance benefits on that hull. I have to talk with someone who has one.
Go lithium on the battery’s , I’ll be switching mine soon. Last way longer and easiest way to save lots of weight on a skiff compared to AGM batteries .

I'll second that the fishing partner still manages to stand right in front of the tm even when side mounted so if that's the sole reason consider it hard. I still like it to side for other reasons but it is aggravating that they manage to stand in front of it.

I'll like jump seat on mine...rides better than I thought it would. The rear seat is tight for 3.

Check that they got the charger issue fixed for lithium, adam steared me odyssey as some were overheating.

Fyi, I had them throw odyssey 1500s since lithium weren't really an option. Added some weight but haven't had issues. I saw some were killing the 1200s with accessories running all day. The trolling motor still hasn't gone below green light. We use it all day to anchor, troll etc since I have no pp and I'm not very good at poling yet.

I went with two Vmax 75ah in the console but they are 45lb each . Last forever on a charge but can get a lithium that will be 15lb each and last even longer. Charger is the issue they say I can use my onboard minn Kota charger but will only get 80-90% charge on a lithium which may not be a big deal for the average day of fishing or you can use the cheap lithium clip on chargers but you have to hook and unhook each time you charge .

Thanks again for all the input. Here's what I'm thinking:
EVOx, dark grey hull/light grey deck with black out package. No hatch liners but SeaDek pads inside hatches on the hull to pad and quiet things that get put inside.
Center console with cooler jumpseat, clean and simple. No cooler to schlep on/off the boat, won't move around in bumpy water. Flush mount 9" display
Removable casting platform with extra deck mounting stud to move platform from hatch to bow.
Suzuki 60- very easy to work on, good local Zuke shops. Foreman prop and Shaw Wing compression plate
Bob's jackplate
Off set mount Minn kota Terrova iPilot 54" 24v 80lb thrust. Odyssey PC1200 batteries in removable battery box.
Powerpole Micro, wired and cut down spike.
Blacked out galvanized Ramlin trailer

I fly fish almost exclusively. I am usually solo or 1 other person. Boat stays in lift behind my house and I don't have to make long runs. I fish mostly during the week. Wife doesn't like to fish so no real concerns about needing extra room for family.

Can you go bigger than a 60? That’s a lot of accessories to push around with a small motor.
EvoX you can go up to a 90, but the 60 pushes it well enough. You won't be beating anyone in a race, but it'll get it up quick enough and cruise low 30's. Just a trade off on weight vs speed. I think Jay is looking to get skinny coming out of the VHP

Consider the prop on your TM.
I have a MK on my bay boat. 2 blade prop
Kinda loud
My skiff has an off brand with a 3 blade. it’s quieter, and 3 blades has a smaller diameter allowing about an extra inch or so when running shallow.
I find that it doesn’t suck air and cavitate as much as the 2 blade MK.
