Hey guys, I planned on starting a thread once I get out there with my new D3000, but I figure I might as well start it now, and get opinions on what and how to do certain things.

I switched the camera to vivid and a few other things and now when I take pics on Manual it has to have flash, otherwise it'll come out completely black.
And even with flash, if it's not well lit, it'll come out dark if it's a far shot.

Is there something I did wrong or didn't do to make it that way?
The colors look MUCH better on Manual than they do on auto or macro.

Anyway, here are a few of my pics I took with my old point and shoot, some cell phone.
I put a black overlay on some of the pics to add some depth.

Tomorrow first thing I am going to start a new thread about shooting in Manual. It should be a 3 part series that will have you well on your way!

Some pretty cool shots in there...what are we seeing in the 4th picture from the bottom? Is that reflected light from the flash on the water?

We were racing the sun across a flat trying to make it to the channel before dark.
Let's just guess who won..... Lol

That is the flash reflecting and showing the bottom.

I just came back from Dolphin Mall.
I stopped in one of the little electronic stores to pick up the polarized filter and they did a sales pitch to me to try and sell me some wide lens.
    That takes wide shots.
They put it on a D3000 and let me use it.
It looked like it worked great. , and it brought a separate macro lens with it too.
And that macro lens was great.
I put a box right up to the lens and it focused perfectly.
They said the price was $399.99.
    I said no.
They said $280 with the polarized filter I originally went in for.
    I said no.
They said $250 final offer with the polarized filter.
    I still said no....lol

I was tempted to buy it, but I felt like I was being scammed.
    I almost pulled the trigger.
It was some random Japanese brand so that's what pushed me away.
The box was all chrome and cheap looking so I wasn't feeling it.

Does Nikon make any of these?
    Has anyone used one?

It really widened up the shot a LOT.

What focal length lense is on your camera currently?

IMHO the only lense brands I would consider buying are Nikon, Canon, Tamron, Sigma.....there might be one or two more but their names have slipped my mind for the time being. I am about to buy a fixed 20mm Sigma lense that opens up to f/1.4 for my Canon 50D. I love super wide angle lenses.

You don't really need it, IMO. But it's nice when you are taking macro shots. It balances out the picture well.

Get a cheepie filter for $25. Works just as good, but may not last forever.

Was down in Flamingo today with Capt. Benny Blanco.
    It was tough out there.
Extremely cold, extremely windy, and extremely cloudy.
Still managed to slam on miniature fish. lol

Caught three snook, one red, boated 4 gag grouper (lost plenty of big boys), and a trout.
The biggest snook was probably between 24 and 26 inches.
I only got a picture of the smallest snook, and the red.

I had forgot that I had messed with the ISO settings last night so the pics came out a bit grainy.

Going to hit up Loxahatchee on Wednesday for some duck hunting pics.
Will try to get better shots.
