I have a 86’ Mercury 20hp tiller. Was having a week pee stream so decided it probably needed an impeller. Went ahead and changed the whole water pump. The motor still doesn’t pee super strong and the water is hot. Just after idling for a few minuets I was getting 220 degree temperatures with steam out of the pee hole. Anyone experienced this before?

I don’t believe my model has one and if it does I can’t find it any where
Yes it does. Here you go, I did the leg work for you! Pull the thermostat housing bolts and be gentle if they don’t want to loosen. If they are seized up heat the heads with a mini torch and let them cool then loosen them, pry off thermostat cover and remove the crusty thermostat and grommet. If it needs replacing buy the parts I listed (39, 41, 43 on list) and clean the inside of thermostat port with a small stainless wire brush and mating surfaces of the thermostat housing cover and block with a razor blade and wipe with alcohol then install new thermostat with grommet then thermostat housing gasket.

Well hell, I thought I had you fixed up!
How does a motor regulate operating temperature with no thermostat? Some sort of restrictor orifice maybe?
Seems like it just comes from the pump up into the cavity and then just runs out when new water comes in from the lower. It’ll start peeing about 30 seconds after start up but dreams bad and water is what seems to me to hot to be good lol
