I recently picked up a Lowrance HDS-9 Gen 3 with no transducer, for a project skiff I am working on. I'm looking to have some sort of good imaging for a few shallow reefs and debris I want to fish and want to see where the fish and also the bait is holding. Also I fish some shorelines in some rivers and deep creeks where the deeper swift water has washed out the bank out from under the mangrove roots, as well as seeing up under some deeper docks where some fish will hold during the daytime.

Does anyone have some experience with a good crisp resolution that can do somewhat of a side scan/ 3D resolution, without going too expensive, like the StructureScan 3D transducer ($1k)? Any that have used the regular StructureScan transducer or the Lowrance Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer? How does it preform? I can get a deal on a Lowrance TotalScan Skimmer Transducer with Structure Scan HD. Any good? Is it compatible with my unit? Anyone have problems with the flip down mounting bracket or the hull bottom mount? Anyone ever use an oil bath interior hull mount transducer (and the good vs bad)? Anyone have any experience with just the cheap flip down generic transducer on the HDS?

Also, has anyone had an HDS9 mounted in one of those sealed swivel mount systems, that keep saltwater out and sticky fingers from nabbing your unit while you are parked at the motel?
