I picked up a Cabelas Atoll 9ft rod in a 10wt, new, for less than half of their listed online price. I've got a serviceable reel. I'm looking for a line, then another reel later. What line pairs with this rod, or what line do you recommend? It will see action in both fresh and salt water.

Try out some lower cost lines to see how it casts and how it works with your casting stroke. Any of the basic weight forward lines. Just read the back of the fly line box and take note of the grain weight for the line listed. An average weight for 10wt line is 280 grains.

I wouldn't sweat brand too much. I'd just pick something of decent quality and 'non-specialized" in a WF10F. Do note that some 10 wt lines are over weighted by a 1/2 size or so. That may help you to cast more consistently if you are new to the sport.
p.s. The big auction site often has great deals on discontinued lines.
