I went to an OMC dealer today to order a few parts for it and asked the guy why it was leaking dirty gas and he said since there was no cover for the carb that everytime I tilt it forward gas is going to leak out. so two questions

Is this correct? is it normal for it to leak gas like this

If this is correct is there anything I can do about it? I tilt it up alot when I pole skinny and hate having this gas getting all over my boat

Thanks

Yea its normal for those older Johnson's. The only solution is to buy the Airbox/cover and install it properly. The airbox has a small hose that goes back to the crankcase. Its a 're circulation hose

Is that part for my model year engine that I can order? the guy at the omc shop said that there was not supposed to be anything over the carb even though it seems like an airbox should be there
