Landing nets

I really have to get out more.
While reading up on hook removers I was sidetracked
by a newslink to a study on landing nets. Now, even landing
nets are considered a bad thing, unless you plan
to eat the fish?

Interesting read, I could easily see the smaller mess net being easier on the fish.

Come to think of though, I haven't caught a fish big enough to need to use my net in awhile! Or maybe I just use a different landing technique now than I did in the past.

Yeah I've heard there are some brands out there that wont take the slime off the fish. Right along the lines of Trout net materials I think. Except for Bass, I try to release everything boatside if possible. I don't keep much anymore, occasionally a Walleye for the pan or a quick shore lunch.

nothing we do to the fish when catching them is good for them. Luckily most of them have to worry more about getting eaten every other minute we're not trying to catch them, so they probably don't hold a little rough handling now and then against us too much...
