L2fish gas motor?

2971 Views 12 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  HeliRob
Anybody running a 2.3-2.5 gas powered outboard on their Livewatersports L2fish? I've seen some running an outboard on the L4expedition but not on the L2 with the exception of one guy on YouTube. Just curious if there is any danger, damage, or drawbacks to running an outboard on the L2 . The Suzuki 2.5 only weighs 30 pounds and would be lighter than using a trolling motor with a battery. Any thoughts from L2 owners would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also let me know what you end up doing and how it works out. I just bought one of the L4s and am trying to decide if I'm going to motor it up one day or not. Exploring my options, but there isn't much info out there on the subject.

I ended up taking back the L2 and got the L4. I'm glad I did. I bought the motor mount and slapped a 2.5 Suzuki on it and love it. I talked with Livewatersports and they said the L4 is designed as a plannin Hull and would prefer to better with a motor compared to the L2.

Thanks for the info dude. Pretty much exactly what I was thinking of doing. I got the l4 for more deck space and stability, Im a flyfishing guy. Plus more room for a ladyfriend!

What kind of speeds you getting out of the 2.5? Range/runtime on a tank?
Also exploring options for mounting a 1gal rotopax for extra range. You running any kind of fuel storage?

I fly fish also, so the L4 is perfect for my stripping bucket, a cooler, plenty of room for extras, and of course the occasional lady friend. I'm looking at putting a small poling platform near the middle of the board too.

I'm not sure about speeds, but pretty quick. If I was to guess I'd say wide open throttle about 15-17 mph. It sips the fuel. I don't burn much, because I get to where I'm going and then pole.

No fuel storage yet, but not a bad idea.

I also trimmed down the motor mount because I was getting to much cavitation.

you running the short or long shaft?

Thats my plan too, have a put in right next to where I store the board. So it would be nice to be able to scoot from spot to spot and the just pole around looking for fishies

Short shaft
How much did you trim down the mm? I believe ss is 15" and long is 20" thinking of just buying the long shaft. Not sure if it will be too long or not though...
