wow.....I can't even imagine the journey that guy went on. And to think he saw land at the end....
that guy had balls of steel to even think of attempting that, let along making it all the way across and being taken away 30 kilometers out.
Lol how come people can do this stuff and look cool but everytime i mention of trying to cross from miami to bimini in my micro everyone looks at me like im coo coo...
People have done it in 13 whalers, jon boats, jetskis, one guy even used a friggin airboat!!
Especially since, if you leave early 5:00am on a nice weather window it will be glass calm the while way.
Nothing compared to the area this guy was in, at all... He was crazy
Same reason people would try to stop me launching my 12ft Alum john boat off the beach in Kitty Hawk and go 20 miles off shore.
It is a scary thing to do. Me I'm scared every time I go off shore, every decision has to be the right one. Much easier to make the one decision not to do it, then to make a hundred or more decisions that have to be right. Even then there is no guaranty.
I'd go to Bimini.
I have some in laws in Stuart, trying to make it down there in the next few moths or so.
No guts, no glory.
Let me know when you get down! The tarpon are showing up in masses an the hobie will be on the water super soon.
As far as going offshore in a little boat, generally boats can take alot more than the humans driving them.
Everything can sink
And a 42 foot center console only looks big at the dock.
Whalers and skis, understood. I would have to see some proof of an airboat ;D. Airboats do weird things in open water. Especially an ocean...
You can google it (kinda busy at work). It made the miami herald or one of the miami newspapers.
I didnt believe it either till i saw the news clip.
It mustve been a FLAT day..
It talks a little about the trip there.
I dont know who would win the crazy award? The kayak guy or the Rebel Flag Deckover driver. It mentions he had a Bertram escort him in front but crossing the ocean is still crossing the ocean...
Well he knew at the beginning of the video that he was not going to be seeing his family again and that he was not coming back. Sad and tragic, sometimes a man's ego and selfishness will make him do things that they later regret or it's too late. Just my opinion, seen this awhile ago and it's still sucks for his wife and kid.
