Had a 1999 25hp.

Lots and lots of torque for a 25.

Idle ports in the carbs clogged several times and the high speed jet clogged a few times. That motor was extremely sensitive to bad fuel.

They used to be bad about the aluminum corroding under the paint.

It was a little heavier than I would like.

Good mpg and never left me stranded.

It looks like Honda hasn’t majorly changed the outboard in the last 20+ years.

If I knew for a fact that they fixed the corrosion and carb issues I would love to buy a new one.

How much does the Honda or Tohatsu weigh with the power tilt/trim added? If I remember right the zuke 30 has power tilt/trim as standard. The Tohatsu 50 is only 50 pounds heavier than the zuke, Honda, and Tohatsu and gives you a 66% increase in HP. It also has power tilt/trim as standard.

The etec 30's are 180 pounds with a 20 inch shaft, electric start, and power t&t. I'd have to assume the Tohatsu and Honda to be close to 180 by the time you added the options.

I believe the Honda 30 in 15" shaft, power tilt and trim is 174. The Tohatsu in same configuration is 179 best I can tell.

I was looking at Flip's new skiff with the 40 Tohatsu TLDI on it. That's a good looking motor. I notice the 50 TLDI is gone from their website even thought I think it was the same displacement as the 40. The 40 TLDI comes in at 209 pounds.

FWIW, I've had a 09' ,30 hp Nissan for 10 years now. ( 20", elec start, power tilt/trim) Always starts and runs like new. SIPS fuel with the fuel injection system . ( Maybe a gallon in an afternoon of normal fishing. I once used only one 6 gal tank on a week long fishing trip where allot of that fuel was used packing in maybe 600-700# of gear into a remote campsite in the adorondacks.) The Nissan is just a Tohatus with a different paint job. ( As were the Mercs at the time.) I've since bought a new 14', 6hp Tohatsu for another skiff and have been equally pleased. I can't see any advantge to paying more for another brand name.
