You're supposed to watch for that golden moment that occurs each day,
but no one ever told me that it was caused by the westbound fumes
from a Hawaiian volcano combined with a setting sun.
The locals call the effect "vog", volcano fog.
It happened every evening we were on the big island
In varying shades depending on how much vog was in the wind.
