ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Magazine Debuts in April

The first issue of the annual ESPN Outdoors Saltwater magazine will be distributed to more than 250,000 subscribers of Bassmaster Magazine with the April issue, making it the highest circulated saltwater fishing publication in the U.S., according to the Mediamark Research & Intelligence (MRI) Magazine Audience Estimates Fall 2008 Report. With an impressive circulation base, the inaugural issue was met with keen interest from advertisers throughout the industry as the original order of pages (36) was determined too little and the magazine was upgraded to 52 pages.

The ESPN Outdoors Saltwater magazine was created by ESPN Outdoors to provide enthusiasts with an insider’s perspective on saltwater fishing. The annual publication will include features from various locations of the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series, including tips and technique articles, human interest focus and photo essays.

A free, digital copy of the magazine will be available starting March 17, at .

“We have had tremendous support and response from the saltwater fishing manufacturers,” said James Hall, editor, ESPN Outdoors publications. “Overall this is a very experiential edition that will entice the readers with great storytelling and saltwater fishing.”

In the feature “Two-Lane Road to the Keys,” staff writer David Jones details the adventures of Bassmaster Elite Series pros Bobby Lane of Lakeland, Fla., and Chris Lane of Winter Haven, Fla., as the two participate in their first ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series tournament out of Islamorada, Fla. The brothers, who grew up bass fishing and competing against each other in BASS tournaments, share their amazing saltwater fishing experience.

Other features include: “The Montauk Experience;” “One to Remember in Savannah;” “Connecting with Deep Dots;” and “Bimini’s Ghost of the Flats.”

The ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series presented by Take Me Fishing will make its television debut on ESPN2 with six 30-minute episodes starting Sunday, March 29, at 8:30 a.m. ET, and ESPN Deportes will begin airing the series Saturday, April 4, at 6 a.m. ESPN Outdoors personality Jose Wejebe, who has hosted ESPN2’s Spanish Fly for 13 years, will host the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series.

The 2009 ESPN Outdoor Saltwater Series season will begin April 4, with the Baker’s Bay Marsh Harbour Bonefish Classic out of Abaco, Bahamas. Other high-profile events include the Florida Keys Outfitter’s IGFA Inshore World Championship, set for July 7-9. The full event schedule and featured sportfish is listed below.

The Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series was founded by Gary and Susan Ellis in 1988 with a mission “To catch the cure for cystic fibrosis.”
