GOES East satellite launched in November 2016. NOAA owns and manages the satellite. Geostationary so the orbit speed is adjusted to the earth's spin rate. Equipped with multiple infrared cameras for real time images day or night. I look at the images daily and along with water levels, river flows, and wind velocity and direction determine where and when I launch the skiff. GOES West was launched early last year and NOAA released the operational view this week. Very useful for the traveling angler.
