Spinney mountain Res. is located 40 mile west of Colorado Springs and designated as Gold Medal water which means fly and lure only and C&R. It's one of the top lakes in the west for trophy trout which average 20" with 7-8 lbers common. Rainbows-cutbow hybrid-browns and trophy pike to 50" are here and readily take big drys. Hoppers-adult damsel-beetles or any big foam terrestrial work well this time of year as they cruise the shallows feeding before ice on [ no ice fishing allowed ].. 6wt. and 1X tippet will get it done. Cheers

River below Spinney has many large fish, especiall spring and fall. Elevation at Spinney is 8,700 feet, so it will be cold very soon. The lake solidly ices over, so you better fish it soon or wait until April/May.

Blind casting streamers is effective on trout and pike as this 41" ate a black wolly bugger but I prefer site casting to the surface feeders with big drys.
The tailwater below Spin " Dream Stream " had its day years ago and does fish well spring and fall when bows and browns move up river to spawn from 11Mile res but lots of pressure for a short stretch of water. Water Dog Hunting Boat Lake
