Bossman karma 19 ideas

2368 Views 23 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  devrep
Just bought a 2015 karma 19. I’m thinking about cutting baitwell out for more storage. Any one tried this or wanting to talk me out of it? I’m just trying to make as much storage as possible. If anyone has any storage organization plans I’d like to see them. Any other recommendations for the boat would be highly appreciated.

Why would you cut up your boat. How much stuff do you need on a boat

A bait well can be storage. Put the plug in it and use it for dry storage with boxes or dry bags. Or put the plug in, throw a bag of ice in there and use it for a cooler. Don't take the Saws-All to your boat. You'll regret it, if not now then when it comes to resale.

If I’m not throwing a fly, I’m throwing artificial. Between two batteries, a power pole pump, and needed life jackets/throwing device. Etc there’s.not actual storage on the boat for a tackle box/ fly bag because unless it’s in the floor, which drives me insane.
Don’t do it!

Storage is an illusion on a small skiff, I mean space available to store stuff is real enough, but little boats are weight restricted and most of the time you are better off leaving extra crap home. You would save yourself a lot of trouble by looking at all the things you want to store and seeing what you can live without.

so you've heard from the weight Nazis :), both of my skiffs have live wells. both were turned into storage. I didn't have to cut anything out though. fishing with bait is for those 10 and under so I didn't give it a 2nd thought. now we'll hear from the bait Nazis.

It’s more of a bait bucket on the boat. Maybe 6 pack and 0.5 lb ice it would be full, but I get what you’re saying.

I wish it was a square/bigger or something, it’s just an odd size for anything but the plug, my wallet keys. Maybe a 6 pack on ice.

It’s def an illusion. I’m just trying to get some ideas for storage without putting everything stuff in my floor. Fly rods are no problem but the artificial tackle box (which isnt that big) has to sit awkwardly on my power pole pump or something.
That is an unusual well. Soft-side satchel or binder lure/fly bags would easily fit in there though.

A reputable glass shop could cut that out and fabricate a replacement storage box that would expand usable space. But that won't be a cheap proposition.

The first thing I would do is relocate the power pole pump further aft (or shift it to port/starboard), that looks like it would make the space more usable and solve your “tackle box on top of the pump” problem.
How much tackle do you really need? I wouldn’t cut it up. I’ve narrowed down my tackle for a day on the flats to a 2x6x6 plastic Tupperware type container. Hard body lures could go in another when needed.

I pulled my livewell out of my old maverick, best decision ive ever made. Feels great to have the storage space instead of an unused livewell that was prone to leaking. Id say go for it if it isnt going to hurt your boat or be an eyesore.

can you place a cooler or watertight box in the cockpit for storage? These are nice boats, if I remember right there is a design connection with another skiff that was a splash of the glades skiff?

Leave it, it's the only dry storage in the boat.

I believe a Glades Skiff owner had sponsons added and the Karma came from that hull.

there were a few skiffs made with the sponsons before the Karma and HB went to court and stopped their production. I think the name started with a D?

I’m actually looking into this. I’m hoping to do a grab bar with a yeti cradle or something similar. I’m waiting to hear back from bossman
Move to smaller tackle bags. You don't need but a handful of lures anyway. A few jig heads from 1/8 to 3/8, a few bags of soft plastics and a small wading lure box for the hard plastics. I used to have a big tackle bag but I've downsized.
