My current GPS is very out dated, but has some awesome shallow water rock piles stored in it. I don't use a GPS for my most common areas fished, however, it would be nice to have a nice back country GPS for areas that I have never fished before.

Not looking to spend $1,000, but would definitely like a GPS worth while. I am only interested in a GPS that is capable of really breaking down the back country, if it does both, awesome.

i have the lowrance HDS-5 gen 2 with the navionics platinum card, gps works very well, image is similar to looking at google earth, it shows detail very good, they now have a touch screen in that model. The different brands are similar, but it seems that you have to get a good map card with the unit, if I was looking for gps only, then I'd look at the maps offered with each brand
