All does anyone have any experience with this particular Attwood fuel fill that has the built in vent? If so is the vent adequate to be your only fuel tank vent rather than going with some style of through hull tank vent? Any manufacturers using them as the sole fuel tank vent on non carbon canister equipped skiffs?

Thoughts? I have seen some skiffs that run into water in fuel issues that are caused by poor running of the vent lines and the thru hull actually letting water into the tank.

Seems like this would be a good solution if venting was adequate.

I think Egret used these at one time. But I am not sure if they still do. I think this more of a pressure release valve. Due to the stupidity of a closed system. The pressure can build up pretty good. And it finds the weakest seal. Which is usually the fuel connection at the tank/outboard. Or the float valve in the carbs. Causing fuel to spill everywhere. And burn your house down. But at least no fumes were freed in the process.

I have experience with the regular vented one on an Egret and it's a terrible vent in a terrible system design. Saltwater into the fuel and all the related engine issues. Putting a fuel vent on a horizontal surface is just a stupid boat building idea. I talked with Jim Gardiner who designed and built the first generation Egret. Jim agreed it's a terrible vent location and I have since gone to a fill only on horizontal surface with a separate vent on a VERTICAL surface and no more water in fuel issues.
