if you're in a hurricane zone either of these is a risky material if the substrate is not properly framed and/or the right fasteners and number and spacing of fasteners are not used, this is largely ignored in the construction industry. if the soffit blows out (or more commonly pushed up) the wind and rain get in your attic. worse case the wind lifts off your roof, best case your drywall gets saturated. If you investigate there are wood diaphragm's that need to be installed which vary by the wind zone you are in. Hardy soffit is a lot stronger. retired VP of construction here.
