I have a 92 mercury 25. The problem is starting and running at low rpm's or at idle. It wont start with just the choke. I have to lift the high idle lever fully to get it to start. Once running it will settle into idle, but when in the water, once I shift into gear, it stalls. Sometimes it will starve out of fuel just idling(carb needs rebuilt I know)...here's another wierd thing it just started doing, It wont start at all unless it's hooked up to the hose with water pushing into it, I cant get it to start at the ramp or in a tank(trash can).

I'm going to get the carb rebuild kit because I have gas leaking from the gaskets here and there, but is there anything else I should look for that could cause the motor to not want to start unless hooked up to pumping water...it pees strong when running btw.

Backpressure is preventing the engine from running.

All indicate a carb out of adjustment.
A 1992 that needs a rebuild and thorough cleaning.
Then set back to factory specs for idle and full throttle.

Yes...when I pull the cord...but it is an elec start so I use that most of the time.

Going to rebuild the carb and reset everything to factory first.
