This Guy caught in in a trawler net by accident. Then coming into port the fish got confiscated because he was only allowes to catch it on rod and reel!!!! Check out the article on noaa.gov.

Sad truth is though, at that size the meat is fairly toxic.
Any apex predator swimming in the ocean at this time is seriously contaminated.
I've got no use for keeping any large fish. They're just unsafe to eat.

Guys, if they allowed this captain to "accidentally" catch - and keep - a bluefin tuna worth tens of thousands of dollars, just how many netting captains would be out there "accidentally" catching them?

A net ban is a net ban. The rule is good, and it's working.

Sucks for the captain, but if you fish for a living you HAVE to know the laws.

I wonder what they will do with it. That is a big fish. Sure is a shame to let that thing go to waist. There are a bunch of cats at animal shelters that would be just love to get this treat and feed them for a day or so. It being Thanksgiving and all.

    just sayin.....

I understand the fish was sold for $5,000 "because of the tuna's deteriorated condition due to the trawl net."
