Is it normal for the shaft to get pretty hot
The reason I ask is the paint on my 99 was kinda greyish or coming off so I painted it with the factory merc black spraypaint and after a couple days seems to be wearing off so I touched it and it was hot
Ive ever felt this area before this and I own. 2005 25 as well and the paint is fine on it but never had a reason to touch it.
I just had water pump and thermostat changed before I noticed this.
Also I felt water while at idle and while running wot for 30 min and it was hot but not too hot to hold hand in

Maybe it was sanded and painted with spray paint before I painted it and it can't handle the heat ??

If you're talking about the leg or mid-section of the motor, then remember that the hot motor exhaust gasses pass through it and out the prop hub. It's going to heat up just like a car's tail pipe.

Yes. the mid section is what im talking about.
Then maybe it is the crappy spray paint that is just burning off ??
